Fan Clutch How Do You Remove

The method of removing a fan clutch on a car varies by make and manufacturer.

Cpu fan grease. You should be able to audibly detect when the fan clutch engages with an accompanying rush of air. The water pump pulley has about 1 inch long threaded post on the end of the pulley. If the engine is hot the clutch fan runs fast and if the engine is cold the clutch fan will run more slowly.

As we all know in order to separate a radiator fan from a water pump the pump shaft must remain stationary in order to break loose the large clutch nut. In the center of the fan assembly there will be 4 large bolts that hold the clutch to the fan. Once the new part has been installed gently slip the fan clutch down in front of the water pump using caution as to not.

Place the fan on your work table with the shaft facing you. It is operated with a valve that opens and closes to control the flow of silicone fluid between the chambers of the clutch assembly. The key to fan clutch function is its heavy silicone oil whose viscous properties allow for soft engagement to drive the fan.

Reinstall the fan clutch. Remove the fan and place on a sturdy work table to continue the repairs. This large nut is directly attached to the fan clutch mechanism.

Remove these nuts and the clutch will come free from the blade. Simple free and doesnt require special tools. If it leaks out the clutch will weaken and eventually fail.
