Fan Clutch Locked Up

I just noticed my fan clutch is locked up.

It does not overheat. At low and idling speeds the clutch allows the fan blade to turn at almost a 11 ratio. When the clutch shoe inside the part gets stuck it fails to disengage.

At high speeds the silicone fluid within in the clutch will lose its ability to transfer the energy from the shaft to the fan clutch body and therefore the fan and the fan is then allowed to almost free wheel removing its load from the engine. Its an 86 with a 040 over 350 and a 292 cam with a 4 core radiator. With 90 psi to the clutch and fan is still locked up hasnt or isnt blowing atf and air out see you can work it free by rotating it a little clockwise then a little counter clock wize easy big boys dont want to snap any old brittle blades off.

The hd fan clutches generally lock up a bit tighter for more fan rpm more air being pulled thru the rad and they also should be set to lock up at a slightly lower temp too both of which is why the hd thermal fan clutch i rec cools significantly better then the std thermal fan clutch that came on these cars. This causes the roaring noise. A small amount of resistance always keeps the fan spinning but its basically free wheeling until the fan clutch engages. You can ask the customer a few follow up questions to determine whether the fan clutch is the culprit behind the roaring noise.
