Qnap Fan Noise

Hunter fan ion generator. Slowing them down will likely lead to pre mature nashdd failure due to increased heat. The cpu and system temperatures seem to stay fairly high above the thresholds at which the fan can be turned off. The noise level of this nas is not especially high reported at 192 dba and unless you use particularly enterprise build hdds.

Set fan rotation speed manually. The fan is adjustable from within the qnap qts gui via a web browser or mobile app so you can increase or decrease the fan rpm to lower any noise but to be honest i would leave it to the automatic settings. The qnap hs 251 is one of only two nas that do not feature rotating fans at the rear this keeps noise exceptionally low but unfortunately when pushed temperatures high.

If the fan rpm does not change the noise it could be the harddrives vibrating. Fans run on low speed to decrease noise. Fans run on normal speed.

This mode is suitable for high loading systems. This is the default setting. Most commercial server farms charge based on how many u high a server is.

Hard disk spindown does not seem to work well either. If you dont tend to push this nas andor on a regular basis then you will notice internal temperatures climb quite high which may degrade performance. Qnap has proven to have a totally ignorant and incapable rd section with no attention for users placing the nas next to their tv set why else do the sell this boxes with dual hdmi and remot controls.

Move the slider to set the fan speed. Hi i have a ts 459 pro with 2 seagate barracuda xts 2 tb. Your nas is designed to live in a noisy server room rack rather than your livingroom.
